If I want to get some friends on my server all I would do is simple set them up an account and have them set their client realm list to my IP correct?

Ya know - Im not sure what I did different I simply re-installed everything again and re applied all of the needed patches.. Maybe the first time around I did something wrong, Im not sure. anyway thanks for the help
