Bear with me here as I am new to this and trying to understand the chat system.

This is more about the client and server interaction. I noticed that the game sends the GUID to the client for messages. I was wondering how the server is to get the name of the sender if the client has not interacted with that player before? I noticed there is a name query so I imagined it sends this. Seems like a ton of requests if many players are all talking at once in global channels. If this is the case, does it just store the message until it receives a query response? Or am I completely wrong in how this works? Any information is appreciated.

Yes, if the client has not encountered the player before it will do a name query first. This is why if a player's name is changed, it will still show up as the old name until the client is restarted.
