mangos has been on the top of githubs' lists for a while, probably because it is so awesome, just like the community we have ;)

Yeah that must be the reason! ;) I just pointed it out :D Its quite encouraging to see mangos that high on the list :D Even over trinitycore in forklevel ;)

Not that surprising. Isn't trinitycore itself a fork of mangos? Regardless, not surprising at all considering the awesome sauce that is mangos (or rather, awesome fruit? awesome juice?).

True, though many may have forgotten and some may not even known it. Old times, old fights about development style and community behaviour led to the fork.

Well I'm not a fan of the drama or politics. By design, a fork is in a good position to be more than the original - adding parts while still being able to add in improvements on the original with relative ease.

That said - and perhaps because of it - I prefer to be in at the base level. Although in all honesty if Playerbot had only been part of Trinity, R2 or some other core/mod, I'd probably be part of that community instead. I consider myself lucky it's a MaNGOS mod :)

oh, sweet! I have to admit, Playerbot has really become integral to my server and my getting it to work on Mangos has sealed me on it. I'm surprised it hasn't already been included in the core... where do I sign THAT petition btw??

All thanks go to blueboy for his tireless work. As for getting it in the core, I don't believe it's even under consideration (by core or playerbot devs). At this point there's little regard for the MaNGOS coding guidelines (I don't mean there's a disregard, more like I haven't even read them). Personally I'm fine with it being a mod. It's hardly vanilla after all :)

Playerbot is a part of R2....

True enough (although if I understand correctly it's at least slightly behind). Fact is though that playerbot development happens as a MaNGOS mod, not as an R2 mod nor as part of R2. That's what I meant about being thrilled of playerbot being part of MaNGOS at the base level. As a MaNGOS mod it can trickle down to any MaNGOS fork. If it were an R2 mod, it could well take a lot of effort to get it to work with MaNGOS or any of its other forks.

OMG mangos is near of 1000 forks!!! But TC have already reach 1001 forks.....

WooHoo! 1001 Forks off one of the 1000 or so forks of Mangos!

:D

Actually Kinzcool, I'm not having a go at you so please don't take it that way, Mangos happens to be among the first emulators to appear for the benefit of all. The fact that TC has more forks is Great! Hopefully we're all sharing the benefits as each project sees fit because we're all essentially working towards the same goal.... even be it some projects with slightly different intermediary waypoints than others.

I would not turn this into a battle between emulators. There are different goals for each project and that is perfectly fine. For me it is important that the constant bashing and attacking is over these days.

I can remember 2006 all to well, ehen the Antrix/Ascent crowd was bashing and ee had months of DDOS attacks, and this should not come back. Hopefully this year we will see some kind of cooperation between all projects. It would be great to at least have/a shared effort to document all technical details required to implement an emulator. That is why open is and shall be the defining keyword for us.

Dun wanna spoil or anything, but actual Mangos spot is 6 behind TC at this point. Never the less, both projects lost so much for dividing. Both sides have great devs, features, but to actually see them in one project, now that would be something. Keep up the good work.

I think the REAL point ought to be asking yourselves, "What can I do to help today?"

Regardless of which core, database, scripts, tools, utilities, or addons you follow, do something to make it better and then share your work with everyone, everywhere!

Don't know C++, SQL, or AI scripting? We always need complete and current documentation, guides, and tutorials.

Don't feel capable as a writer? We always need players and server admins to provide useful feedback on what works and what is broken or missing.

Can't be bothered to do any of those things? Then stop trolling, shut the hell up, and go back to being a tea-bagging jerk in CoD multiplayer!

Don't want to spoil even more, but MaNGOS is on github for much longer time than TC, which was on googlecode before (mercurial)

Shh! I don't want to hear about it! ;) Anyways there are also a clear explanation to why trintiycore gets more users.

Spoiler:

Because it simply works better for the players, wow server owners do not care at all about how stuff is written, only that it works!

Some players want to learn though.

This is why mangos exists! Learning how to write and manage a big opensource C++ project, networking, Object oriented programming, Program layout designing etc..
