Noobie Question about backing up database

I was just wondering if it was possible to back up the sql databases for character, mangos, and realm in the event a computer fails and how to do it.

Any graphical SQL client allows this in a simple way (the drop-down menu option "Dump SQL file.." or "Backup database as SQL dump..." at right-clicking the DB name).

Alternatively, there is mysqldump command designed specifically for this task.

Do you recommend a GUI for Debian?

In case of a local system, yes. For remotely accessed one, rather not.

I have no personal experience in SQL GUIs for *nix. See the discussion here and the list here. I'm happy with SQLyog, but doubt that I would run it on Linux under wine.
