Custom Profession (tradeskill) Spells possible just through SQL?

I copied copper ore and made a few new items based from that, so they are trade skill items. 

I copied both the spell and the trainer spell that teaches the player from Copper Chain Pants and tried to create a new blacksmithing craft spell but no matter what I can't get it to actually show up in game. 

Do I need a dbc editor and mpq editor to actually make this work, or will SQL work?
