.save for security level 0?

There are a few player on my favorite server who maintain that they can use the .save command for themselves. There ist no feedback from the server as if the admin account use the command, neither something like "done", nor an "unknown command". Does this really work for players with security level 0?

Yes it does work for players.

The thing is that is command doesn't return any message to prevent cheat planning. Take a look at the HandleSaveCommand in Level0.cpp for more info
