How manny players i can hold on windows xp sp2

with this sistem:

AMD ATHLON x2 5200+

4gb dual chanel ddr2 800mhz

240gb sata 2 300mb/sec

gf 8800GT 512 mb

??

I would say reasonably... around 100. Depends more on your connection between the clients and the server. I have hosted as many as 450 on a box with approx those stats... but I also had a 45MB/sec internet connection

what windows you recomand me?? vista / xp sp3 / xp sp2 ??? from those; not linux or win server 2003/2008

Well... I personally run Windows server 2003... but I'd say XP with SP3 should be fine. Any of them will work fine, though you may run into more complications with Vista.

You'll do better with a version of Win that is actually intended to be a server....

That would be best IMO, but even Win2k3 would be better than XP.

At least that one MS *tried* to make into a server.

Also, for people considering Vista:

Keep that in mind.

my suggestion: use linux as server

if you really don't want... i can just say, that on my pc with xp sp3 it worked fine with ~40 testers (but then the router hang up )
