MaNGOS Welcomes Eluna

Recommended Posts

Hello, my fellow Mangoloids!

MaNGOS ScriptDev is getting old and isn't as well maintained or developed as it once was. This has led to plenty of frustration with dungeons, quests, and other features that are still broken or incomplete.

However, we now have a new hope!

-=\\\\[**Our team here at MaNGOS is happy to announce a new partnership with Eluna.**]////=-

The Eluna Project Team have been working very hard and with Antz and others of our Dev Team have managed to make this possible. They've developed a spankin' new Lua engine for scripting the MaNGOS EventAI. This means you, me, and the other 99% can now write scripts for dungeons, boss fights, NPCs, and just about anything else your imagination can cook up!

Being a true scripting language, Lua is easier to learn than C++ and you can also create custom commands to expand the power of your scripts. It is hoped this will make scripting for MaNGOS friendlier and more accessible to all, eventually growing into a massive army of community developers.

Those of you who are familiar with creating UI Addons for WoW should be able to jump right into Eluna and start scripting places like Stratholme. The rest of us can pick up on the basics with Eluna's excellent wiki, tutorials, and a very helpful group of people at Eluna's official forum, which is hosted by EmuDevs (Thank you, Tommy!).

The folks at Eluna are a dedicated bunch and they have worked hard with us to make this new scripting engine work for MaNGOS. Currently the focus is integrating Eluna into MaNGOS Zero, with plans to begin on successive cores after the Zero Rel19 project helps works out the kinks and builds a better working relationship between our Dev Team and Eluna.

It is my belief that we have made new friends who fit well with the MaNGOS philosophy and community spirit. So let's all make them feel welcome and express our hopes for Eluna helping to make MaNGOS better today than it was yesterday!

Foereaper has also started an Eluna Q&A topic in our Scripting sub-forum, so feel free to ask their team of developers and find out more about Eluna today!
