    As far as I know should these have absolutely no effect on ping if your connection is the limiting factor. From your connection speed I am guessing you host at home - do you use a dedicated machine for this, or are you using a workstation for the server also? What is your CPU load on average when lag occurs?

  5. Is there MaNGOS Protocol Documentation?

    I have been doing some research into it myself (from a mostly academic point of view of trying to make a 'server' people could connect to in JAVA), but even most of the source is mysterious about it.

    Good starting points in the source I found so far:

    1. game -> Server -> Opcodes.cpp / Opcodes.h lists all expected codes send by clients.

    2. WorldSocket.cpp, WorldSocket::HandleAuthSession in particular seems to handle the connecting of new clients to mangos.

    3. WorldSession seems to handle booting of players and some communication from and to them.

    Don't expect much documentation there - a few lines of hints randomly placed is about it for most functions / classes. Some methods are entirely undocumented while other functions are quite well written with pleny of comments throughout, I am guessing the result of an open-source development model.

    If you do ever find some real protocol documentation, let me know :D

    UseProcessors - Use Multiple processor for better performance (Windows Only)

    In all my tests (with the 0.12 branch) this shows no difference whatsoever. In fact, setting multiple processors on sometimes even increases lag when a loop is entered (load constant at 50%, alternating between CPU's).

    Mangos isn't truely-multi-CPU under windows, at least, not as far as I have been able to test.Would make quite a difference if true multithreading is enabled at instances for example.

    To be frank, I would very much welcome a milestoned release cycle, with appropriate feature-freezes and bugfix periods.

    Currently I am working with the 0.12 branch. Tested out about a dozen versions between 8138 and 8452 so far, but none of them was stable. Some were quite stable (uptimes of half a day to a day ), others not so (we're lucky if they'd stay up for more than an hour). Especially from an old branch like 0.12 I would expect a certain level of stability and 'finalisation', but this seems a wild dream - 8406 or so even introduced a major bug in the 0.12 branch (which was fixed in 8414).

    Yes, new features and an agile paradigm have their uses, but the Windows Crashdump threat is full of people with the exact same crashdump (some loop in spellCastAura it seems) and the only response to this I have seen was from Vladimir (here) who did some work on it in 8404 - unfortunately this did not resolve our problems.

    There are two points I am trying to make here:

    1. If you want a 'stable' version, there is absolutely no telling which release should be picked. Maybe 8137 is more stable than 8452, maybe 8463 is even more stable and maybe 8478 is crashy as hell (random examples) - there is simply no way to tell except testing, which on a live platform is not something you want to be doing.

    2. Development focusses primarily on new features and bugs, not stability or code-maintainance. I have seen some commits from Vladimir to refactor and clean up code, but he seems to be the only one concerned with this.

    The net result of this for server owners is that if you do happen to find a stable version, you stick to it no matter what since even a small update may cause all sorts of trouble. I am a professional software developer myself and from experience I know that cleaning up, refactoring and in general code maintainance is not the most fun thing to do. Let alone concentrating solely on stability and bugs instead of adding fun new features. But that does not mean it should not be done. I work professionally primarily with MySQL, Apache, PHP, all open source projects (or used to be to some degree), and all of them 100% stable with hundreds of users. So why does Mangos have to crash every 5 minutes if a user casts the wrong kind of spell against someone with the wrong kind of aura (example)?

    My apologies if I sound unsatisfied - I really do appreciate all the great work you guys are doing. But the current development model is a nightmare for me and server owners everwhere :)

    Did an update to the 0.12 backport from 8415, stable for a few hours but suddenly it started crashing every 5 minutes or so - seems to be the same issue as Voldemmort, menke and nvbk. We're back to 8215 again till someone finally bothers to fix this :huh:

    Im Haveing the Same problem but from some reason the board will not let me see any other page but the first one so i can see if there is a solution to the problem

    just wanted to let others know that if you search for Microsoft Windows SDK for windows server 2008 and .net framework 3.5 it will fix the problem

    you will then need to add the following paths as

    C:/program Files/Microsoft SDKs/windows/v6.1/bin to Exe Tab

    C:/program Files/Microsoft SDKs/windows/v6.1/Include to Include tab

    C:/program Files/Microsoft SDKs/windows/v6.1/lib to libary Tab

    Clean and build

    Build Successfull with this fix

    Excelent solution: after spending several hours trying to bypass the errors I was getting I stumbled upon it, downloaded the SDK mentioned, clean, build and it completed with 11 succeeded and 0 failed! Thank you very much!
