Avoid lag when backup characters

Hey , i just want to know how to avoid lag when you backup your characters, because my characters are very big and i need to avoid it. Any ideas?

Using InnoDB format gives me no lag whatsoever when backup up the character database.

Do i something need to change , because first , i made in normal without configuration mysql character database , and after some time i added my conf with innodb configs but it lagg still , do i need to change something?

from what i know, mysqldump locks the tables it is currently dumping, and for large tables (like character_achievement_progress) that can take minutes. not sure if there is a way to prevent the locking (and i doubt it would be wise to do that)
