Hey,

Not sure if this has been spotted by anyone else but mangos is registered to a lot of sites mailing lists, we got a mass mail that wowstatus.net sent out tonight.

Nothing unusual about the content of the mail until you look at to who it was sent to!

Wowstatus.net had a MASSIVE amount of emails in the "TO" field, this means anyone getting the news letter will have everyone of their customers email addresses!

getMaNGOS contacted wowstatus.net and got an instant reply:

Hi MadMax,

you are absolutely right. We had a script running and there was a stupid mistake in it. We are really sorry. Thank you for your mail.

Best Regards,

WOWSTATUS.NET TEAM

Sending mass mails to your community needs to be set-up carefully, as the security admin here at getMaNGOS I have several things in place:

[*] Emails cannot be sent from our server in this bulk method

[*] Emails sent by getMaNGOS have the bulk header in the headers field, allowing mail servers knowing it is a mass mail

[*] We have manually set-up and tested SPF, DKIM and other systems in place to make sure our mail reaches your inbox.

The above are just a few things we do, in fact I review things like this on a very regular basis as well as read the error logs for the entire site and mail system.

It's not WoWStatus you should be worried about so much as it is the sloppy and unethical practices of a lot of the "private" servers people join after checking WoWStatus. Anyone that gives personal info or a credit card number to one of those outfits is asking for trouble.
