I gave this a run and it works fine for me. Try standing a little more in the middle of the room on that mound of dirt.

Did you do it in the room where the rare mob was spawned in (the room to the left when you enter the cave)? Because i didn't try that one, only the other one (to the right). There are only 2 rooms where the quest is supposed to work, i think. Ok i'll try sometime.
