Mangos Registration Bridge

Recommended Posts

Yeah, releasing this is different from allowing someone to recreate our custom integration.

I'm curious how you set it up. Showing the URL is a lot different than spending many hours creating an ingame and forum integration that we will be doing anyways. It's not going to take away from your player base in any way. People who are looking to perform the same task as Google is not going to harm Google by looking at their tools they provide (Search, videos, maps, adsense, etc.)

The whole idea of you sharing your product is to help the community in an open source platform. I'm not asking for your entire bridge, just for ideas on what we should include in ours. For someone who has been in web development for the past decade, I'm always looking to expand my knowledge base, so it's more of a personal curiosity.

As you're not going to give up on this, I'll be a bit blunt:

Sharing the URL, whether it be in this thread, or in PM is against GetMangos' rule. Also, any information you could derive from said URL would be only templates, and the way we present our integration. It will not save you time from developing, therefore your point is moot. It has nothing to do with fear of you stealing our playerbase, as such things don't interest me. Google provides services, not tools (At least in the examples you posted). They keep the majority of information and working mechanics of their systems private, and share very little about them (Search being a great example, especially if you've been in Web Development for the last decade as you have said).

We've never said anything would be released other than this part of the bridge, or if we did, it was tentative, and the last word on it would have been a decision against it. Our reasons for this are: GetMangos doesn't support private or public servers, our bridge includes tools and features useful only for said servers; Our system is completely custom, and basically useless to any other person without the changes done to Mangos.

Ideas are easy to get, think them up yourself =]. As I said, seeing our URL would change nothing, as the only integration you would see would be templates, and nothing else.

If you have been in web development for a decade, you should easily be able to do what we've done, without any actual knowledge into our process and framework. That is if you were ever a professional, but clearly your actions in this and the Armory thread speak otherwise .

We released this, as we wished to give back to GetMangos, and provide a starting point into integrating vBulletin to Mangos for people, without doing all the work for everyone (Not that we were done at this point anyways). However, due to people like you, I don't see us releasing the newer version, nor do I see us releasing anything else that would be helpful here. I dislike immature and rude idiots, who harass and attack people on forums, and try to manipulate the usage of open source to get what they want, just because they either lack the talent or the drive to do the work themselves.

Any further posting in this forum, or contacting me through this forum will result in being reported to the staff.

To staff: If you think I flamed without cause or reason, feel free to delete this post, or the thread.

Where did all this come from? You're being quite defensive and rude out of no where.

> Also, any information you could derive from said URL would be only templates, and the way we present our integration. It will not save you time from developing, therefore your point is moot.

Exactly, so what's the issue with sharing the URL? I'm curious out of personal curosity how you set it up, no "stealing" intended.

> Google provides services, not tools (At least in the examples you posted). I never once asked for your full code, not information about the rest of the code involved.

> We've never said anything would be released other than this part of the bridge, or if we did, it was tentative, and the last word on it would have been a decision against it.

I never asked you to, I was planning on developing the system ourselves.

> Ideas are easy to get, think them up yourself =]. As I said, seeing our URL would change nothing, as the only integration you would see would be templates, and nothing else.

Exactly, so why so defensive?

> If you have been in web development for a decade, you should easily be able to do what we've done, without any actual knowledge into our process and framework.

I've been using vBulletin since 2002 and have developed misc plugins for 3.x and 4.x and developed a few code modifications for 2.x before the plugin system was released way before even hearing about Mangos. I never said it wouldn't be easy to do, I know exactly how to do it and planning to do so once we have the time.

> We released this, as we wished to give back to GetMangos, and provide a starting point into integrating vBulletin to Mangos for people, without doing all the work for everyone

No one asked you to do the work for them, infact people have their own code for their sites makes them unique and it's encouraged.

> However, due to people like you, I don't see us releasing the newer version, nor do I see us releasing anything else that would be helpful here.

People like me, seems you're up on your high horse rambling about shit you have no idea about.

> I dislike immature and rude idiots, who harass and attack people on forums, and try to manipulate the usage of open source to get what they want, just because they either lack the talent or the drive to do the work themselves.

This is just plain LOL. You obviously have no clue what you're talking about.

I'll post wherever I like. You do not own the forum and posting in threads and contacting you is not against the TOS. If you don't want to be contacted, there is an ignore feature.

Updated the first post with a required step we had forgotten about:

Add this into your config.php

define('DISABLE_PASSWORD_CLEARING', true);

And as for updating... I'm not sure yet.

If an update is done, we'll probably add in a few more things such as:

Adding realmd entries that aren't in the vBulletin user table.

Adding vBulletin entries that aren't in the realmd account table.

So that people won't require a new install of vBulletin, or the realm database.
