This is not the place where UDB forums get fixed. mangos and UDB are not maintained by the same people.

The problem isn't so much that it is a gray area, but that mangos as a project can't move into any gray areas or they put themselves at risk. Endorsing client modifications which may or may not be illegal is still a big risk.
