Perhaps I am overlooking it, but is there not a way to download the MaNGOS wiki as a single file for import/parsing as a backup for personal use? Most all wikis I've seen have this feature. I think the wiki dump is saved as an XML or csv file.

There is no need to create patches. I am very comfortable using Git branches. I do hope you will reconsider. Your work, and the work of many independent developers, is as much a part of the MaNGOS community as any other works. Since it seems pasdVn has abandoned his pet branches, your code is the only left to make pets work more correctly.

Using TeamSpeak, or some other means of voice chat, is the best way for many people to collaborate and learn. I learned more about the OutdoorPvP source code in one evening of chatting with DaemonCantor on TS than I had with all the reading I've done on these forums. Neither of us had a clue when we started, but it was the brainstorming and playing off each others' ideas that made all the difference. vladex, if you want to get that "learning party" together, I'd urge you to do it on DC's TS server or something like it.

Many thanks for your work on pets_rewrite! Please, will you add that branch to Core Modifications or submit for review?
-
You're welcome. Glad I could help. You may best show your thanks by sharing your updated patch with the community. I'm sure there's plenty of guys who would love to have a working version for 3.3.5a.

You may also wish to have a look at MangMod, an unfinished port of TrinityAdmin by gmanley. MangMod Github repo - https://github.com/gmanley/MangMod Perhaps it may give you some more ideas for completing your TrinityAdmin4MaNGOS, Kratos.

Ok, but using Windows as an example is one method for uptime, but what about Linux or Unix? Those systems commonly have uptime counted in months. How do they handle it?
-
You're too modest, DaemonCantor! DaViper was a big help to me when I was stuck on a particular problem, but you have been just as much help. Where your C++ skills are lacking, you still have so much more experience with other programming languages that it helps you to see possible fixes where all I see are jumbled symbols and ancient Sumerian script. Honestly, I think you could do at least as well as your brother with fixing up Vehicles. We can hit the books together if you want to learn C++. I can also help you with Git, though I'm no pro but I know my way around it well enough.

Assuming there would be some crazy guy out there, who has a costly server rack, and has his MaNGOS running for 49+ days... Could you not error trap an overflow by resetting the mstime when a certain value is reached? You could use the uptime value in the realmd database as a string when showing total running time. This would avoid having to convert to uint64.

Quicker on the draw, vladex, and most likely better organized! lol

I'll do some digging, but no promises. My patch folder is a nightmare, filled with files dating all the way back to 2.43! EDIT: Found it! Sorry it took so long, but a stack of patches fell over and nearly buried me! Just the Argent Tournament fixes: http://paste2.org/p/1152901 Full SQL, with fixes, for core revision 10530: http://paste2.org/p/1152905

I'm beginning to wonder about this, too. It's been a long time since pasdVn has updated his Github repo, long enough that I have to wonder if the patch is still needed for the core. With all the changes made to the core, would pet and petstats even work at all? Please, pasdVn! I really like your work on Pets and sincerely hope you haven't forgotten it.

That may be so, DC, but you'd be amazed how many people that frequent these forums have no idea how to do a proper merge, let alone use Git beyond anything more sophisticated than the simple "git clone" command. Now, if gdcf's trouble with the patch is of that sort, there's several good tutorials and guides out there in the internet, plus the many we have here, for using Git and patch merging. But, assuming there may be more to his issues with Vehicles, I asked if there were serious problems in the hope we can be of help.

So far as I recall, the only practical method for having flying mounts in the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor was to equip the mount as a trinket or wearable item. Shirts were the preferred way, since they're a simple item with no other spells, enchantments, or buffs and did not require sacrificing another, more valuable gear slot. Then, you remove the map ID check that prevents the mount from being summoned. The code is all there in that thread you referenced. It will likely need updating for 3.3.5a, plus, you will need to remember that 3.3.0 hard-linked items to the DBC files, so custom items of any sort must make use of a similar item that is unused in the DBC file. As such, a shirt used for your mount must have an unused shirt in the DBC file which you can put in its place for it to work.

DO NOT BE SORRY! Errors, mistakes, and failures are how we all learn. None of us are better than the other. We all started learning at some time, just as lost and looking for answers. You just keep right on working, iforgotmypassword! You never know, maybe your mind will find an answer in a way that others cannot see. Do not become discouraged. Listen to qsa and faramir. They both have a great deal more experience dealing with the movemaps and you should value their advice. Let that advice guide you as you work to learn more and create better program code. So long as someone is at least trying to learn, cut them some slack, guys. Bashing or flaming them simply because they know less than you do, or lack those "L33t |-|@x0R" skills, is a good way to lose future developers. We must all be more tolerant of each other. Sometimes, language is a barrier. Other times, it can be attributed to the fact that we're all a bit odd, in our own ways. You've got to be a little crazy to do this, after all.

Were there any particularly serious problems you encountered while applying the last patch provided?

mangos foundation - we are getting there
Unkle Nuke replied to Auntie Mangos's topic in OldAnnouncements & news
TheLuda has a point. Let's not get too distracted with spinning tales of conspiracy. We know what the MaNGOS Foundation is up against. What's needed is the ability to push it out of the way. This is where those legal protections come into play. Eventually, political protection may be needed, but baby steps first, then walking and running. The Free Software Foundation may be a good model to follow in setting up a framework. They have successfully withstood lawsuits from the likes of Microsoft, IBM, and others. Perhaps a few well-written e-mails to them might yield some good advice or direct help. -

Now that, TheLuda, is far more profound and scary than words first make it appear to be. lol? -
mangos foundation - we are getting there

Aside from a few classic Fritz Lang films and "Das Boot", I'm not a big fan of German cinema. I love my country. We're mostly ordinary folk here like you'd find anywhere else. All of us, regardless of country, face the same daily troubles, have the same needs, and seek those things which make us happy. Now, there has been some sanity restored to this mess in the U.S.A. The Fair Use Act was reinforced recently, allowing people to circumvent protection measures on media for the purpose of personal use and backup. People are allowed to monitor, store, and inspect all network traffic that passes through their computer and/or LAN. Also, reverse-engineering of software is permitted under very limited conditions, mainly for the purpose of a student learning. MaNGOS brings all of us together as both students and instructors, to become a part of something bigger. It's not just about program code. It's about pushing the limits of our knowledge, to challenge us to grow and learn. Some entities would love nothing more than to bring an end to this in the name of protecting profits, those same ones who have made "intellectual property" into a bludgeon wielded with considerable force. Yes, there are those who utilize MaNGOS to cater to the public, thereby risking the wrath of corporate lawyers and jurisprudence. However, you cannot blame the MaNGOS group for this any more than you can blame Einstein for the atomic bomb. That's why TheLuda's statements struck a chord in me. We are all part of a very good thing here. I would most certainly hate to see that ended out of blind ignorance or, worse yet, the stupidity of complacency. This man should be applauded for his efforts to bring a coherency and legal status to the idea of MaNGOS. Every one of us should support that ideal in whatever way we can, to ensure the dream will endure. P.S. I like my sig. It's humorous and elegantly expresses the fact that my mind wanders down a hundred different paths every day. Sometimes, it even comes back. -
Here's a big concern: With so many radical changes to the client, will there even be the possibility of backporting fixes for MaNGOS 4.x to 3.x? If not, then what becomes of development for 3.3.5? I know 1.12 has found its own dev team and 2.43 does see some backported fixes from 3.3.5. Though 2.43 does have some patches, work on the database and scripting seems to have disappeared completely. Will 3.3.5 die off or be rescued from the dustbin of obsolescence by a devoted group of developers?

mangos foundation - we are getting there

Many governments no longer exist to serve the people, rather, their multitudinous bureaucracies cater to corporate interests. This is an inevitable result of many companies and other financially interested parties being multi-million dollar contributors to political campaign funds. When our public servants only serve money, then the law is twisted to serve those who have wealth. You will hear governments speak of the dangers certain knowledge brings to public safety while corporations lobby to have draconian and illegal laws passed to protect every penny they feel should be theirs. People are demonized and labeled criminals for opposing this evil. Your rights end where the politicians corruption and company coffers draw those ever expanding boundaries which swallow your freedoms. I would love to see The Mangos Foundation grow into a juggernaut that carries millions of shouting voices in a tide that screams "NO! This will not stand!". Every single human has the right to expand their knowledge as far as humanly possible. To learn is to grow. To know is to make the world a better place for everyone. Someone must make a stand, to draw the line against tyranny and greed...where we finally say, "This far and no further!" -
[Patch] Auction House Bot (Xeross' Branch)
Unkle Nuke replied to Auntie Mangos's topic in OldCore modifications
By this, it would seem he's asking us to post any further issues with AHBot to his thread in the under review sub-forum. -
is there anybody here that hang out in project silvermoon
Unkle Nuke replied to a topic in OldCommunity Cafe
I could have sworn I just seen in the 3rd-party projects sub-forum a post from one of the PSDB devs. Did something happen to make them shut down? -
Worgen Druids bug you? I've got two words to add to that... Tauren Paladin. I think that sums it all up for Cataclysm rather succinctly.
