Let's have some fun with this. Why not have the community vote on the names for the projects?

We could post a poll, asking members which naming format they prefer. It would be a good way to help build community spirit and encourage everyone to participate more by making them feel their voice counts in how MaNGOS will grow. :)

I've got an old tutorial on setting up a mangos server in .doc-format. Unfortunately I don't know who originally made it.

I started to update it months ago (I made / was forced to make a break with mangos, so its still not completed).

Will this be of interest?

Absolutely yes! :)

Please finish your guide, complete with links to everything a clueless newbie will need to download, patch, compile, and configure a complete server.

Ideally, you would want to write it so features such as Vmaps, mmaps, and AHBot can be easily skipped by those who do not want to use them. Perhaps labelling them as "Optional", with a brief reason given for what each of these features offers and the additional system resources needed to use them.

With Playerbot being so popular for low-population servers, perhaps we can have blueboy's guide for installing and setting up Playerbot included as its own guide.

To help keep the main core guides simple and uncluttered, other similar addons could also be documented separately.

There occured and will occure questions until its finished. (I'm far away from being a pro) Should I create a new thread to ask them or can I use this one?

Vmaps are optional?

A tutorial for AHBot is already included (in the optional section) but it didnt work (I don't remember what went wrong though).

But for a wiki we don't need a file in the end. Perhaps the tutorials get their own wiki pages (one for mangos and others for optional stuff, to which is linked in the mangos tutorial page under the optional topic).

This should be relatively easy to arrange.

It would be best to start a new thread for questions and assitance with writing a complete guide. I'm sure Salja wants this one to remain on topic.

Anything you must compile in separately or can switch off in the configs is pretty much considered optional. This includes Vmaps, mmaps, AHBot, ScriptDev2, and ACID. You won't have much of a server without them, but MaNGOS will work.

I made an undertaking a few months ago before all the Dev split/furore to work on the Wiki but unfortunately it was about there that my long term relationship of 6 years ended, with two children between us among other things, I guess life priorities got in the road and I had to take leave from MaNGOS to sort myself out. Anyway, tears and babbling aside I'll look at continuing where I was but I suppose the obvious question is where is the Wiki going to be, are we going to maintain a GitHub Wiki for each of our releases or are we going to maintain our own All-In-One-Place Wiki?

:)

I'm not sure what current plans there are for the wiki. Just before TheLuda retired, it was intended to have the wiki moved to Github. The main part of the wiki was to be in the MaNGOS Master repository, with topics specific to each core being placed in their repos and cross-linked from the master wiki.

I wish I did, then maybe I might have more of a job helping out around here!

Details on how to do it ought to be described in the Github Markup language section. Most HTML commands are supported in GML and Mediawiki tags should work or have GML equivalents. I know that much, at least.

I have faith in you, bugeyed! Life does throw troubles upon us, but it is the little things like working on a wiki for your favorite hobby which reminds us that even in the midst of sorrow you must not abandon the joys you still have. From these, we find strength and the patience to await greater happiness to come.

Hang in there, bugeyed! You're a good guy and I am glad you are here. :D

As you may have seen, I've been flexing my wiki L-plates on the mangos Zero Wiki.

I have found an easy way to generate the database table/field contents as wiki pages. Therefore creating the base for people to work on :)

I did the Realm table last night, i am currently working on characters.

So how about that idea of conducting a poll for our members to choose a naming format for the various core repos?

Dispute the potential for chaos while we make any changes, I'm game.

- Salja and I will need to work very closely together to make sure that the website matches the repo within minutes of any change.

I must chime in with my two cents, but for goodness' sake what have you guys done with the website? The one before the last one was for all intents and purposes fine just needed updating. Now it looks like a two bit private server landing page. I'm not trying to insult the person who obviously spent some hours getting it up along with the information it holds, but the style seems to suggest my aforementioned remark.

We will be refining and toning down the website over the next few weeks, but our hand was 'forced' to get it live sooner rather than later.

- We had received quite a few complaints that one of the old links had now been taken up by a porn site :S

Sit back and enjoy it as you see the design adjust to what people want here :D
