hello to the mangos comm.. well ive been away a lot of time (years) from this lovely project and well i see that many things has changed, ive been trying to search some things but im still with some question or where i can read about.

* What are Mangos (Zero,One,Two,Three,Four) i guess that is something like Zero is for Classic (Vanilla) Two(TBC)..and so on (so how i can compile for example if i want to set up a Cata or M0p). dont know if the process is the same as b4.

* The other thing is well i remember that for DB files there was some more projects outside of this website like UDB, SDB (Silvermoon DB), and YTDB (or something not remember the exactly name)

* Also that there were more projects about core's like tryniti that comes from mangos and there was other if im right called ascend or something

so i want to get in to again of all of this dont know if there are new projects on cores and DBs, also dont know how is the advance of MoP at this point. i know that mangos or mangos site is a education project so thats why i want to know the most currents DBs used this days and all the stuff for the cores.

NOTE: also i remember that there was something called Scriptdev2 were they Script all the boss encounters for raids dungeons and so on, but i couldnt find their page atm

anyway tnx for all the help and info u all can tell me also any private mssg is welcome to get more info or something.

MaNGOS Zero, One and ect are correct. Zero represents 1.x.x One 2.x.x and ect.

Yes TrinityCore is still very active and is your best choice for Two and up. Ascent has been dead for a long time.

SD2 is dead

Many things have changed and there has also been another split.

Mangos is now self contained.

The Scripts repo contains the scriptdev for mangos (some cores have this merged in).

The Database repo contains the world database (rather than using external db's).

We also are introducing Eluna LUA scripting across the cores.

oh so if sd2 is dead now who makes the scripts for boss encounters? mangos itself? and when u said that trinity is the best choice for 2 and up u mean for wotlk and cata and mop?

ive see that now mangos is more focused to the Zero core, like re-structuring it ( the whole core itself )

when u said that has also been another split is from the originals mangos dev? also there are more projects beside mangos and trinity? and why Krill said that trinity is the best choice for two three and four?.

few years ago mangos was the top 1 , i mean for the new expa and like i said now seems to be focused on the original stuff ( maybe re-structuring the whole core to reach new expas? )

Hey,

Right now we are focusing on Zero and One. However the later expansions will get attention as the cores become more sync'd.

I don't know why Krill said that about trinity, I think both mangos and trinity have there good points, trinity is a fork of us.

We have undergone many team restructures over the years, many of the old guard did not seem to like to much change or did not want to discuss things openly as they are done now. I joined the team last year to rescue the getManGOS site after it was hacked. The new site you see now was only launched recently and was a months work by myself with some help from antz who did the styling/layout on some pages.

We do have test servers up at Covenant-WoW | Classic, Burning Crusade & Wrath Private Servers which you are welcome to play on, these are updated pretty often.

As for the Eluna that is to run along side SD2 (which has not been developed in about a year), Eluna will give us the option to continue developing scripts with the more complex stuff written into SD2, I suspect that in a few years Eluna may replace SD2 entirely. A small number say Eluna is resource intensive but the Eluna team are committed to streamlining that to the point where it wont matter.

Once Eluna is fully implemented and stable we will start putting scripts on it :).

I think the major difference between us and the forks of Mangos is that the developers don't argue as I have heard has happened in the past, ideas and suggestions are discussed and voted on as a team. We don't have an overall project lead any more saying what's in and out, instead there is a four man "Senior Developer" team that discuss upcoming features etc.

We do have people making small commits on the later expansions, and hopefully with time we will get more developers to take these on.

I beg to differ. Since the addition of Eluna I have experimented with both Zero and CMaNGOS "Classic", and SD2 is actively being developed and used in CMaNGOS. If not by the SD2 guys, then by another team. Either way, SD2 has come a long way since my last build with MaNGOS using it (pre-R18 I believe).

Hey,

There are a couple of points to note about SD2 now.

  • It supports another mangos fork (not our version of mangos) and the latest sources are made not to work for us without rewrites, which I know developers have not been doing - they have better things to be doing.
  • Every commit pulls the SD2 source further away from our own core (as its now developed for a fork).
  • wotlk is the only active sd2 repo. All others have only received minor updates in the past year - to break them for us.
