    Hunter pet quests bugged

When leveling a hunter you have to complete a series of quests at level 10.

After taming each creature and handing the quest in the pet is supposed to despawn/go. Currently handing the hunter quests in does not remove the pet/creature you have tamed for the quest.

This issue breaks hunters and prevents them from obtaining pets unless they re-log at each stage of the quest chain.

That quest that the hunters have to do are database & core sided. More then likely the core scripts are broken and/or need some updating to fix the issue. Another factor in this is the movement system, that effects the pets in one way or another.

what i remember playing on official server with a hunter and getting quests taming the beast is that the tamed beast stayed with you for couple of minutes, and after these minutes it started to attack you, so you had to kill it, and when you abandon the pet it also started to attack you , i never in my mind believe it just despawned ;)

Just tried at Zero Rel20 (Jan 25) for one quest 6064 (dwarf). The tamed pet is not abandoned while quest handing, but it can be readily dismissed with the UI (right click - Dismiss). After that it continues to attack the player because it attacked them right before tamed and, seemingly, the threat table was kept.

There is a lot of related bugs:

    • the Taming Rod after usage shows only brief GCD and may be reused even while channeling
    • seems that aura icon on the "pet" is not updated thus not informing about limited duration
    • after teleport the "pet" is not following (ok); after return to them, the pet icon (HP etc) is not updated to the correct state
    • if killed by an NPC under Tame spell channel, the beast does not die but happens tamed with a low HP
    • ? no pet HP regen after combat (its exactly why it attacks the player when dismissed - pet feels stuck in combat)
    • ? relog removes aura from the "pet" and also does not restore pet UI, this seems OK but may be improved sometime ;)

Bugs found as NE hunter lv10

    • Quests 2 and 3 of the chain could not be completed because the rod could not be used on the desired creatures

Pasting here some debug I did if someone is interested

    Quote

The second quest asks you to use a new Taming Rod to tame a "Nightsaber Stalker", but after finding one I just could not use the item on him, receiving the "Invalid Target" error.

Npc info told me that the npc entry was 2043, and after checking the table "item_required_target" I found the relation (15922 , 1 , 2043) that told me that the nightsaber indeed was the target of our rod(checked the rod entry 15922 in the "item_template" table and everything was ok).

So I decided to check the spell.dbc for the spellid_1 19699 that I found related to that rod, and I found the expected spell "Tame Nightsaber Stalker". Even so I could not tame the npc I mentioned above.

But when I changed the targetEntry value to 2042 (the entry of the lv6 nightsaber close to the npc), I managed to tame them without a problem.

And here is a video of the quest chain being done Video

I believe it's the intended behavior considering spell data using QTSpeelwork and the video from the chain being completed.

      Same as above

Indeed if you charm a beast and use your hearthstone, you keep the "pet" but it does not follow you to the inn, he stays where he was when you tpd. Only issue is that you can't dismiss the pet without him being close, so you are forced to run back to him and dismiss or logout/login, maybe a good solution would be to auto dismiss him when to far away from the player.

Could not replicate. In all my tests the beast died but was considered charmed. Only problem was that you are forced to logout/loggin to get rid of him since you can't dismiss a dead pet. :)

Pet indeed doesn't regenerate hp, probably because he is charmed and not tamed, not sure if its really wrong, could not find vanilla footage of o pet damaged during taming or used to fight, but as in other cases a charmed creature is still in combat, just under your control. Attacking the player when dismissed is the intended behavior as the video shows.

Seems like the right behavior considering a charm spell would break when logging out :)
