if someone wants to port the bg_event-patch from battleground to mapclass it will speed up the progress very much.. but i currently don't have enough time for it.. i think next year it will get better

if someone is interested: here is my first work on this: http://github.com/balrok/mangos/commits/map_move2

it needs some compile-testing and some hacks must get removed sql stuff must get renamed (battleground_creature event_creature or map_creature.. i don't know.. it's always the hardest thing to get good sounding names, which will describe everything well enough^^)

if this is done the spawnsystem of outdoorstuff must get rewritten and then it will work again.. (also after this sd2-code can maybe be simplified, since no spawncoords must be inside the scripts and spawning inside scripts will get as easy as in battlegrounds then.. :) )

balrok, and how about this:

Looks like it is. balrok has been MIA since early December of last year and nobody else has stepped up to fill his shoes, let alone work on the parts he said he would need someone to help out.

Damn shame, really. Battlegrounds would likely still be broken if it hadn't been for balrok's devoted genius that made it possible for integrating it into the core.

He's going to be sorely missed.

hello,

i'm certainly not the author of the bg-system inside mangos.. ;)

i only changed it (:

also i can't do anything right now, cause i switch my home and so i have no computer with client for testing..

my work so far is moving the bg-spawnsystem to the map-class here: http://github.com/balrok/mangos/commits/map_spawning

afaik this already was working.. only db-records for doors had to be changed..

i was thinking how to improve speed a bit, since now every spawn will look up inside the spawn-event map and also i'm not very content how doors are handled yet..

this spawnsystem move currently has no visible effect, but is needed as a base for the outdoor-patch, since we have very much spawns there which could be handled quite good with the database..

also this can be used then for scripts to move spawns into the database..

I'm sorry to delay this that much, i hoped to finish it somewhere in my holidays but had way too much other stuff todo :/

if someone want's to make it work again, i'm happy to help..

the current problems are spawning and gossip

and for 0.12 current problem is backporting the latest battlegroundchanges http://github.com/balrok/mangos/commits/backport

and then do the same as in master which shouldn't be hard to do, since the code is very similar

edit: http://github.com/balrok/mangos/commits/outdoor_dev is outdoor merged with mapspawning and some work to convert the spawnpositions from code to db

BALROK!! Well, thank the good Lord you're still with us! Good to see your name again. :D

Maybe you're not the original author of the BG code, but it was you that got it working. And we all know how huge that task was! After all the re-writes and changes, I'd hazard a guess that at least half of the code is yours.

Be well and I hope life is good to you, balrok. Hope to see you back in action soon!

Unless balrok makes another surprise appearance, I'd have to say the answer to your question would be a solid "No".

I'm not real sure what's been keeping him off the grid, but it does seem life has been keeping him away from further work on Outdoor PvP for the near future.

I suppose if someone wants to make some news, by lending balrok a hand to help complete this patch, he did say he'd be willing to give programming advice to such a volunteer.
